Description for Bear Country Cabin
From the exterior, Bear Country Cabin looks like a typical log cabin. Inside, however, it feels less like a simple cabin and more like a luxurious retreat. From the hide rugs to the plush sofas to the hot tub on the spacious deck, this is an inviting space you’ll look forward to spending time in.

Making up most of the main floor is Bear Country Cabin’s great room. Windows interspersed among the wood-planked walls and skylights in the beamed cathedral ceiling wash the room in sunlight during the day and allow you to stargaze even while sprawled out on one of the sofas at night. A wood-burning stove warms up half of the space, while a stone-surround fireplace casts a golden glow over the other half. Furnished with couches, a large HDTV with satellite channels, and a pool table, the main section of the room is sure to be your group’s primary gathering spot. Set off slightly is a smaller sitting area, with a leather couch where you can chat with a friend, surf the web via the free WiFi, or escape for a nap.

The great room’s dining area seats six with room to spare. During the warmer months, however, you’ll likely want to dine alfresco. The deck has tables and chairs to accommodate a small crowd, under the shady balcony as well as out in the open. No matter where you are on the deck, however, you’ll relish the sight and scent of the towering pine trees bordering the property. Even when temperatures dip, you can still linger outdoors, thanks to the propane fire pit—and to the hot tub’s massaging jets of steamy water.

You can cook trout you reeled in yourself—or steaks and veggies from the supermarket—on the deck’s gas grill. Once you see Bear Country Cabin’s beautifully equipped kitchen, though, you might want to prepare all sorts of feasts indoors. The sparkling stainless-steel appliances, the gleaming granite countertops, and the cabinets stocked with cookware, gadgets, and tableware might spur you to new culinary heights—and if not, there are plenty of restaurants just a few minutes away! (In fact, Bear Country Cabin’s owner has a table for four at Ruidoso Downs’ Turf Club, which you can add to your reservation for an additional $40, except during Labor Day weekend.)

Bear Country Cabin can sleep as many as nine people. All three bedrooms include a queen-size bed; what’s more, one of the sofas opens into a fourth bed for two, and a futon can sleep one more person. Two of the bedrooms and a bathroom are located on the main floor, with the master suite making up the entire upper level. This sprawling space includes a sitting area, a bathroom, and a door that opens onto the private balcony. Furnished with a table for two, the balcony is tailor-made for romantic drinks in the moonlight, with hooting owls providing the background music.

While you relax at Bear Country Cabin you’ll feel blissfully secluded from the everyday. Yet the house is surprisingly close to numerous attractions. Grindstone Lake and Trail System, where you can boat, fish, hike, bike, and play disc golf, is just over a mile away. The boutiques and galleries of Mechem Drive to the north and Sudderth Drive to the east are less than a 10-minute drive, as are several golf courses. In less than twenty minutes you can drive to the Hubbard Museum of the American West and Ruidoso Downs. Even the slopes of Ski Apache are just 40 minutes away. (Because Ruidoso is a mountain town, its roads may be covered with snow and ice in winter, so a vehicle with 4-wheel drive or tire chains is highly recommended.)

Whether you’re in town to ski or hike, golf or gallery-hop, you’ll love the comfort, convenience, and luxuries of Bear Country Cabin. Book your stay today and get ready for what might be your best vacation yet.
