Description for Big Bear
Bring up to 10 people for a fun vacation at Big Bear, located within the Bear Mountain Lodge cabins within Apache Village in midtown Ruidoso. This lovely large cabin is perfect for two families and is ready to be the home base of your exciting New Mexico vacation!
Big Bear is a two-level cabin built by the same primary carpenter who, in the 1940s, constructed the rest of Apache Village. In ensuing years, the cabin has been updated to meet the needs and desires of today’s visitors, while still retaining the beautiful handcrafted details of the original cabin. Knotty pine walls and beamed ceilings complement a large stone fireplace in the living room. It feels so good to snuggle up in the overstuffed furniture and listen to the crackling fire while you watch your favorite shows on the large flat-screen TV with cable.
Just off the main living room is the kitchen that’s outfitted with everything you need to prepare your group’s favorite dishes, serve them and clean up with ease. You even have a dishwasher and double oven perfect for handling the appetites of a large, hungry group.
You can serve everyone around the dining room table. If additional seats are needed, you can set up four people at the breakfast bar. You’ll love the handsome bear mosaic above the cooktop and the hand-hewn log bench at the breakfast bar. These are just two of many thoughtful touches you’ll find throughout Big Bear.
You also have a large covered deck with a gas grill in case you want to prepare the fish you’ll catch in the Ruidoso River, Grindstone Lake or Lake Alto. Ruidoso is a fisherman’s dream vacation destination.
As an added convenience, you have a washer and dryer within Big Bear. No need to trek down to a Laundromat to take care of a stain. Just toss in a load of laundry and head out on a hike through the woods. No stress!
The primary bedroom at Big Bear is a cozy enclave with a beautifully carved log bedstead housing a queen-size bed. A unique carved end table adds to the charm of this special room. You’re sure to sleep well in this private sanctuary. The primary bathroom continues the log cabin feel with its knotty pine walls and lengthy log vanity. You have a shower/tub combination that’s perfect for bathing both adults and any young children in your group.
The second and third bedrooms also include queen-size beds and the large gathering room on the lower floor features a queen-size sofa sleeper and an alcove with twin bunk beds that are ideal for children. The second Big Bear bathroom includes a walk-in shower.
One of the things you’ll appreciate most about Big Bear is its location. You can walk from the cabin to restaurants, a grocery store, a coffee shop and art galleries. Or, hop in your car and drive to downtown Ruidoso. It takes just a couple minutes and there’s so much to see and do. Be sure to visit the horse races, the casino and the zip-line that runs year-round up at Ruidoso Winter Park. Of course, skiing is a short drive away and some of the most beautiful vistas you’ll find anywhere are waiting for you within Lincoln National Forest.
In addition to Big Bear, the other six cabins within Bear Mountain Lodge are ideal if your group grows larger than 10. You could also reserve Brother Bear (one bedroom), Dancing Bear (two bedrooms), Sleeping Bear (two bedrooms), Bear Bones (two bedrooms) and Bear Den (three bedrooms).
You’ll enjoy a wonderful vacation when you reserve Big Bear in the Apache Village in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Book your preferred dates today!
Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads. 4x4 or chains may be necessary to access the house during winter months.
