Description for Butterfly House
Architecturally significant, The Butterfly House is a re-creation of a classic case-modern home with wings, ample glass, and sloped ceilings. Completed in summer of 2011, this new one-story home sits on one acre of secluded property with unobstructed views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The Butterfly House is being featured in the 2012 Design Santa Fe tour. The initial design concept of this residence was to provide a vibrant entry and open living space in the heart of a minimal arrangement of supporting spaces/forms rooted in the earth. The implied butterfly roof is the intersection of these spaces creating a spirited appearance from a distance and up close. The house was designed to reflect an environment of health and repose within the surrounding high desert of north Santa Fe. Both the Santa Fe Plaza and the Santa Fe opera are just minutes away. The Santa Fe Ski Basin and the city of Taos are each less than 45 minutes away.

The home is 2100 square feet with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The media room and master bedroom both have flat-screen televisions. A sofa and flat-screen television are located in the media room for guests to use. The kitchen shines with black granite countertops, an island, and top-of-the-line appliances. A patio, which features a table and chairs and a gas grill, is accessible from both the living area and the master suite, and looks northeast, directly at the mountains. Other features include a wood-burning fireplace, an over-sized shower in the master bath, and a split bedroom design. The home is furnished with a mid-century and modern style. It incorporates environmentally conscious systems for the management of water, waste, heating and cooling in order to help preserve the beauty of the New Mexican landscape. The house is oriented and was built to assure optimal natural heating and cooling and has state of the art high powered ceiling fans to provide comfort year round. The home was designed by James Horn of Spears Architects www.spearsarchitects.com/residential/butterfly-house and built by Chip Evans of Housemakers, Inc.

The house was designed by James Horn of Spears Architects. Mr. Horn specializes in modern, minimalist design. His work has won several awards and has been featured in Western Interiors magazine. James took our vision of a modern, clean structure and created a spacious, comfortable, light-filled home that is both contemporary and loyal to the Santa Fe landscape. Brand new construction by builder Housemakers Inc on one-acre private lot with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains from every room of the house. Master bedroom has queen bed, luxurious oversized shower with bench, access to patio. Guest bedroom has queen bed with private shower/bathtub. Great room comprised of living room, dining room and kitchen. Wood-burning fireplace. Bathrooms have German honed limestone counters. Kitchen has black granite counters and island with 2 stools. Double oven, dishwasher, microwave, gas stove. Dining room has seating for 6. Concrete zoned radiant heated floors.

Reviews for Butterfly House
Nice modern home in a quiet, gated community.
Roomy home for our party of 2. We each had our own “wings” with beautiful views. Kitchen was well stocked with dry condiments and extras like aluminum foil, plastic bags, etc. Patio area was lovely to sit and and watch the sun rise over the mountains, sunsets are beautiful as well. Easy drive to the Plaza area and then nice to be back to a quiet, gated neighborhood in the evenings. Beds were comfortable, with cozy blankets, down covers.(would prefer king pillows-but that is just my preference)Towels and bathroom supplies were adequate. Perfect stay for our girl’s trip.

Wonderful!
The house was beautiful. Very modern and in a beautiful setting. The house has a great kitchen with all the amenities needed to prepare meals. The house was immaculate and well cared for. We would definitely stay there again!

Pleasant, comfortable, clean, conveniently located to opera.
Good space for two couples. Good kitchen amenities. Difficult to manage AC for bedrooms in hot weather. Great views from covered patio, which we enjoyed - hummingbirds visit. Good value. Would rent again.

Beautiful home. Great living space and with all that you need.
We would definitely return to this home again. And we loved all the reading materials and the audio system.

Comfortable, fairly quiet, beautiful house on a hill with great view
The house was great! I would recommend it to a friend. I should probably give it 5 stars, but there were a few things that made it "not perfect". The good -on the hills, with a lot of privacy (some of the neighbors are pretty close, but there are either trees or hills protecting your privacy in every direction) -neighbors were quiet, and house was in a subdivision away from the city -beautiful views! -well equipped kitchen! -towels, linen and bath essentials provided -being able to do laundry in the house was great -very clean, organized, good instructions in the house -manager made sure to contact us after check-in and before check-out to make sure all is ok (though we missed both calls, and ended up never talking to her, oops) -being able to pick up and drop off keys outside office hours was nice, as we arrived late and left very early The bad -close to the interstate (can hear cars all the time) -house is "creaky," sounds like it's constantly settling -- not a problem for us but might annoy some people who are sensitive to noises -bedroom shades don't do a great job, the light woke us up early in the morning -getting there in the dark was a bit challenging, as the instructions didn't clearly state there is a gate to the community, and the house number was also surprisingly hard to spot -- but it all was perfectly clear in daylight, maybe we were just tired that night! All in all it was lovely, and I would definitely consider staying in the Butterfly House again!
