Description for High Country
A four-bedroom home that can sleep as many as 10 people, High Country Retreat offers everything you want in a Ruidoso getaway. It is close to numerous attractions but on a quiet, peaceful street. Comfortably furnished and spacious, it boasts a large deck with spectacular views. And it includes a bevy of modern conveniences, including free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a brand new hot tub, and a full-size washer and dryer.

Our tour of High Country Retreat begins with the open living/dining/kitchen area. A pair of handsome leather sofas are perfectly positioned so that everyone can enjoy a movie on the flat-screen TV or the warmth of the crackling fireplace—or both at once. Ceiling fans contribute an inviting breeze once the weather warms, and there’s central air-conditioning as well to help you beat the summer heat.

Eight people can gather around the dining table, in seats so comfortable they’ll encourage lingering long after the meal is over. Four more guests can perch at the kitchen island, which doubles as a breakfast bar. Of course, on warm, clear evenings you’ll probably want to savor your meals out on High Country Retreat’s sprawling deck. Along with a patio table and chairs, there are several sitting areas, some in the sun and others in the shade. The singing of the hummingbirds is the perfect background music for sipping coffee in the morning, just as nightjars will put on a concert as you enjoy cocktails beneath the starry sky.

The deck includes a brand new hot tub and a gas grill large enough to barbecue steaks and burgers for a crowd. Prefer to cook indoors? You have a beautifully equipped kitchen in which to play Top chef. Along with all the major appliances, there are plenty of smaller ones including a blender, a waffle iron, and a crock pot, plus loads of storage space and elbow room.

Downstairs is High Country Retreat’s game room. With air hockey, foosball, and a pool table that can double as a ping-pong table, it promises to provide hours of entertainment. There’s a wet bar down here too, so you don’t have to interrupt your game to run upstairs for beverages. Because the futon opens into a queen-size bed, the game room can serve as an extra bedroom too. We’re pretty sure the kids will clamor to make this their sleeping space!

High Country Retreat has four “proper” bedrooms, each of which includes a flat-screen TV for late-night viewing. Along with a king-size bed, the primary suite features a private bathroom with dual sinks, a shower, and a pampering jetted tub. When you return from the slopes or the hiking trails, a long soak will feel heavenly! Each of the other three bedrooms has a queen-size bed, making High Country Retreat as well suited for a getaway with other couples as it is for a family vacation. These bedrooms share two additional bathrooms.

High Country Retreat’s convenient location might be its greatest amenity. Alto Lake and Recreation Area in less than 10 minutes away; when you’re not fishing—the lake is stocked with trout—you can explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. Even closer are the Links at Sierra Blanca and Cree Meadows golf courses. The Fort Stanton Historic Site, casinos, the Hubbard Museum of the American West, and the Funtrackers family amusement center are among the attractions less than a half-hour away, and you can drive to Ski Apache in 35 minutes. Please note that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter; four-wheel drive or chains may be necessary.

Whatever the season, one thing is for sure: At High Country Retreat, you’ll make wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Book your stay today… before someone else beats you to it!
