Description for Wandering Cubs
Looking for a rental that can accommodate 5 couples for a ski weekend or where a large family—or 2 smaller ones—can enjoy a summer vacation in the mountains? Your search is over: Wandering Cubs fills the bill. With 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a hot tub, a pool table, and a wooded, convenient location, it’s an ideal home away from home.

Four of Wandering Cubs’ bedrooms include a queen-size bed; the master suite features a sumptuous king-size bed. What’s more, 3 of the rooms have their own full bathroom, and all 5 include a flat-screen TV with cable for late-night viewing. Two of the bedrooms open onto a deck, perfect for stargazing before snuggling under the covers.

Two bedrooms are on the upper level, as is the elegantly furnished living room. On brisk winter evenings, everyone can gather by the gas fireplace, hot cocoa or brandy in hand. The downstairs is where you’ll find, in addition to 3 bedrooms, the game room. This is sure to be a favorite hangout spot, thanks to its pool table and a flat-screen TV. The game room includes a kitchenette, equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, a coffeemaker, a microwave, and a sink. If 2 families are vacationing together, one can claim this lower level as their own while the other settles in upstairs; each floor has its own entry from the outside and its own deck.

No doubt everyone will want to enjoy meals together in the upstairs kitchen/dining area. The handsome dining table seats 5 with room to spare, and 3 more people can sit at the adjacent breakfast bar. Although Wandering Cubs is close to numerous restaurants (Flying J Ranch, a Western-theme dinner theater, is only a mile down the road), the kitchen is sure to spur your culinary creativity. With its stainless-steel appliances, gleaming countertops, wealth of cookware and tableware, and beautifully grained cabinets, the kitchen makes cooking a pleasure. You can cook outdoors as well, on the gas grill. Whether it’s trout you reeled in from Alto Lake (also just a mile away) or veggies from the market, they’ll taste even better when grilled alfresco.

In addition to the gas grill, Wandering Cubs’ decks offer plenty of seating. Everyone will be able to sit outside and listen to the hummingbirds’ chirp and flutter among the towering Ponderosa pines. The bistro table on the upper deck is ideal for nursing a final glass of wine beneath the star-studded night sky. Perhaps the best place to savor the magnificent setting, however, is the hot tub. Especially after a day of hiking, skiing, climbing, or mountain biking, a leisurely soak among the massaging jets of water is just the pampering your tired muscles will need.

Wandering Cubs’ other amenities include a washer, a dryer, and a sizable paved driveway with room for multiple vehicles. Perhaps best of all, however, is its location. The wooded area behind the home separates it from NM-48, also known as Billy the Kid Trail. Being so close to the road means you can get to the Links at Sierra Blanca in less than 10 minutes and the galleries, boutiques, and restaurants of downtown Ruidoso in only 15 minutes. No more than 20 minutes away are the Hubbard Museum of the American West, Ruidoso Downs horse track, and Billy the Kid Casino. And in just a half-hour you can drive to Ski Apache, the southernmost continually operating ski resort in the country. (Note that because you’re in ski country, during winter a vehicle with 4-wheel drive is highly recommended.)

A convenient location, a serene setting, and luxuries such as a hot tub and a pool table: Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? That’s why you should book your stay at Wandering Cubs today—before someone else beats you to it!
