Description for Wild Horse Retreat
Tucked away on a quiet road amid towering pine trees, Wild Horse Retreat feels blissfully removed from the everyday hustle and bustle. Yet the 2-bedroom, 2-bath home is less than 2 miles from Alto Lake, less than 20 minutes from the galleries and shops of downtown Ruidoso, and only a half-hour from Ski Apache. You can make the most of the local attractions during the day and enjoy peace and privacy at night.

Wild Horse Retreat’s spacious covered deck lets you revel in the area’s natural beauty without leaving the home. Start your morning with breakfast alfresco at the deck’s bistro tables, listening to hummingbirds and nuthatches greet the day. Later on, cook up a feast—perhaps trout you reeled in yourself!—on the large gas grill and dine amid the crisp mountain breezes. End your evening with a pampering soak in the hot tub among the silvery shimmer of the moonlight. This is what vacationing in the mountains of New Mexico is all about.

The interior of Wild Horse Retreat is just as restful. With wood-planked walls, amply cushioned seating, and large windows to let in plenty of sunshine, the living area is everything you’d expect from a mountain home. In winter you can sip hot cocoa and Irish coffee in front of the stone-surround fireplace; in summer the ceiling fan (and the central air-conditioning) will cool you off when you return from a hike. Along with plenty of carpeted floor space where the kids can sprawl out with their toys and games, the living room has a TV with cable channels. And the entire home offers free WiFi.

Six people can comfortably gather at the dining table in Wild Horse Retreat’s eat-in kitchen. Even if you head to the numerous nearby restaurants for your main meals, you’ll appreciate having a fully equipped kitchen at your disposal 24/7. And if you do decide to prepare a family feast, you’ll find all the appliances, cookware, and tableware you could need right here—all you have to supply is the food and an appetite.

Wild Horse Retreat can sleep up to 6 people—and as many as 3 pets as well. The primary suite practically ensures sweet dreams. Prop yourself up against the pillows of the king-size bed and watch TV, read, or surf the web before letting the chirping crickets and hooting owls serenade you to sleep. The suite includes its own bathroom with a shower and plenty of storage.

Furnished with 2 queen-size beds, the 2nd bedroom can sleep as many as 4 people. There’s a 2nd full bathroom as well. When you arrive at Wild Horse Retreat you’ll find the beds already made up, extra bedding at hand, and plenty of towels for both bathrooms. What’s more, the house has its own washer and dryer, so you can pack lighter than usual.

If you think the scenery surrounding Wild Horse Retreat is beautiful, wait till you get to Alto Lake. As you fish for trout—the lake is stocked—or explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback, you’ll be awestruck by the majestic mountains not far in the distance. Also close by is Flying J Ranch, where you can visit attractions about life on the frontier before enjoying a chuck-wagon dinner and a show. The Links at Sierra Blanca golf course is less than a 10-minute drive from Wild Horse Retreat. Only a bit farther are the Fort Stanton-Snowy River Cave National Conservation Area, Ruidoso Downs horse track, Billy the Kid and Inn of the Mountain Gods casinos, and the Hubbard Museum of the American West, among numerous other attractions.

Whether you’re visiting in the winter to ski and snowboard or in the summer to hike and fish, whether you prefer exploring the great outdoors or the numerous art galleries, you’ll find Wild Horse Retreat a laid-back, lovely home away from home. Book your stay today… before someone else beats you to it! Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads.

Reviews for Wild Horse Retreat
Very clean and well located...met all our needs.

Quiet getaway
Really enjoyed our stay here, especially the hot tub after a long day of skiing. Would definitely suggest a 4x4 during the winter as we encountered a pretty severe snow storm that made entry into the drive a challenge. Other than that, it was exactly what we were looking for and really enjoyed spending time with the family.

Great covered deck, peaceful setting
It appears this property has been recently upgraded. Kitchen nicely equipped but no dishwasher. Not a problem really, just FYI. Minor problem with blinds was tended to by management quickly. Another FYI, 2 bathrooms but only one shower. The covered deck is so nice with plenty of seating, tables and a nice propane grill. We enjoyed our stay at this property.
