Where you'll be
Description
Nestled among woodlands, Fort Getaway has a huge wraparound deck where you’ll be able to revel in the crisp mountain breezes, the chirping of hummingbirds, and the sight of deer frolicking among the towering trees. Parts of the deck are covered so that you can relax in the shade during the summer; other parts are wide open, enabling you to marvel at the star-studded sky at night. The deck includes a grill and a table with chairs and a patio umbrella so that you can cook and dine alfresco. Whether it’s trout you reeled in yourself from a nearby lake or steak from the grocery store just 5 minutes away, it will taste even better when savored outdoors. After a day of hiking, biking, or horseback riding, a long soak among the massaging jets of water will have your weary muscles feeling as good as new.
Fort Getaway’s great room looks exactly as a mountain cabin’s interior should: wood-planked walls and floor, a stone-surround wood-burning fireplace, leather couches as comfortable as they are handsome. Stretch out on a sofa to watch TV, nestle on a window seat with a good book, gather around the coffee table for a game of Uno—in short, make yourself right at home.
The great room’s dining table easily seats 6—no jostling elbows or bumping knees here. There’s also a breakfast bar that seats 4: Pull up a stool, open your laptop, and check your email while grabbing an afternoon snack. (Fort Getaway has free WiFi). Or sit here cutting up the vegetables for a salad while the chef in your group prepares the main course. Fort Getaway’s kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances, cookware, and utensils; all you have to supply is the food and an appetite. The room’s open layout means you can watch TV, enjoy the crackling logs in the fireplace, and keep an eye on the kids while you work your culinary magic.
Fort Getaway’s 3 bedrooms are furnished in the same contemporary rustic manner as the rest of the home. The primary suite has a king-size bed; when you’re not sprawled out watching TV you can kick back in the recliner with a stack of magazines. There’s a private bathroom too, with a combination shower/tub and plenty of room to primp for a night on the town.
The 2nd bedroom includes a queen-size bed in a log-style frame and a TV. With a pair of twin beds, the 3rd bedroom is perfect for the kids. Be sure to bring their favorite DVDs, as this room’s TV is for DVD use only. These 2 bedrooms share the 2nd bathroom, which also has a combo shower/tub.
When you arrive you’ll find the beds already made up and plenty of clean towels in the bathrooms—no need for you to bring your own. In fact, because Fort Getaway has its own washer and dryer, you can pack lighter than usual.
Be sure to bring your snow gear if you’re visiting in winter, however. Ski Apache, the southernmost continually operating ski resort in the country, is less than 40 minutes away. Even closer is Ruidoso Winter Park, where you can snow tube in winter and soar on a zip line year-round. If you’re vacationing during the warmer months, you’ll want to check out Alto Lake and Recreation Area or Grindstone Lake; each offers fishing as well as trails you can explore on foot, mountain bike, or horseback, and each is less than 15 minutes away.
A vacation at Fort Getaway is almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, with you as the author! So get ready to write yourself a wonderful time by booking your stay today. Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads.

I would highly recommend this cabin. Clean, comfortable, and nice location. Well worth the price. It has a great deck for relaxing and we saw deer, wild turkey, wild horses, and a small herd of bull elk. Great trip!
