Description
Everything about Sleeping Bear speaks of comfort, charm and coziness. Chinked walls and tin ceilings add to the Old-World atmosphere. The snug living room’s knotty pine walls and floor coupled with the rustic wood accent pieces give it a feeling of light and warmth. A cozy, upholstered sofa with nail head trim is an inviting spot to curl up and enjoy your favorite show on the large, flat-screen cable HDTV. A farmhouse table for four at the far end of the living room is a great spot to enjoy a family meal or a board game. The small but complete kitchen includes a double sink, full-size fridge, microwave, stovetop, toaster and enough cookware and utensils for you to prepare anything from a country breakfast to an afternoon snack.
To ensure you and your family are fresh and ready for the amazing sporting activities the area has to offer, Sleeping Bear has two bedrooms with room to sleep up to six people. One roomy bedroom boasts two comfortable queen-size beds set among unique tree trunk pillars. An overhead ceiling fan lulls the occupants to sleep. The second bedroom features a full-size bed and access to the shared deck via a set of sliding glass doors. The full bathroom has a shower/tub combo and is well stocked with clean, fluffy towels.
Sleeping Bear is easy to access through a front deck level. Out back is a large, partially covered shared deck with multiple chairs plus a gas grill, making it an ideal setting for hosting a barbecue.
Built by an experienced carpenter in the 1940s, Sleeping Bear is one of six larger cabins that make up the Bear Mountain Lodge group of cabins; they’re a great choice for multiple families traveling together! These cabins have been updated to provide modern convenience while still retaining their original vintage look. Honey-colored, stone and knotty pine walls and ceilings blend with the warm tones of the bedding, carpet and window coverings to add to the overall cozy feel, while beautiful handcrafted details show up in the most unexpected places.
Conveniently located near the Village of Ruidoso, the Bear Mountain Lodge cabins are just minutes from restaurants, shopping and interesting art galleries. The surrounding area is loaded with opportunities for outdoor adventurers, from skiing at the nearby Ski Apache resort to hiking and mountain biking in Lincoln National Forest. During the summer, Ruidoso Downs Racetrack features horse racing while, northeast of the village, history buffs can enjoy exploring the 19th Century adobe and stone buildings and museum of the Lincoln Historic Site. There’s something for everyone in Ruidoso, so book your mountain stay today!
Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads. 4x4 or chains may be required for during the winter months.

The cabin was very nice and clean. It was a good space for the time we spent but we felt it lacked some things other cabins and homes we’ve rented before had. The woodwork was beautiful. First off there were a couple issues we noticed for safety we told the renter about that hopefully gets fixed including missing smoke detectors and an unsafe extension cord for the fridge. For comfort, we felt the kitchen was lacking. We read all about how it had a full kitchen and brought pasta to cook but the pot was not large enough, just a small saucepan. The fridge and freezer did not get cold enough to freeze ice cubes after two days and the door to a bedroom would not close as it was off the rails. There is also a loose tile in the bathroom just in front of the tub/toilet. The outdoor space was nice and it has a good location to downtown Ruidoso but be aware that it is on the main road so you may hear some noise. The check in was a bit clumsy as we had to download an app to tell us to pick up a packet with our code as it appears this is a third party rental. Would’ve been a lot easier to just have the code provided directly. It was a nice stay but don’t think we’d go back for the price paid.
