The 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home sleeps as many as 10 people in both comfort and style, and its peaceful setting among towering Ponderosa pines is ideal for relaxation. At the same time, it’s just minutes from lakes, trails, golf courses, casinos, ski slopes, and just about everything else the Ruidoso-Alto area has to offer.

Cozy Knotty and Nice has a spacious covered deck and a charming porch so that you can make the most of the surrounding natural beauty. A roomy dining table lets you dine alfresco, and thanks to the gas grill you can cook outdoors as well. Start your day sipping coffee on the deck swing—if the little ones haven’t already commandeered it, that is—as hummingbirds chirp and falcons soar above the treetops. End your evening with drinks in the silvery moonlight as owls hoot and stars twinkle above.

During winter, of course, you’ll probably be spending most of your time indoors. The spacious great room can accommodate the whole gang, and thanks to its towering cathedral ceiling you’ll never feel as if you’re all on top of one another. The living area’s leather seating is so comfortable, once you sit down you’ll never want to get back up! Fortunately, there’s a large flat-screen TV with cable and free WiFi to keep you entertained. In winter the fireplace will bathe the room in a golden warmth; in summer the ceiling fan (and the central air-conditioning!) will keep everyone nicely cool.

The great room includes the dining area: a table that seats 4 with room to spare and a breakfast bar with room for 4 more. On the other side of the breakfast bar is the kitchen. Equipped with a full array of appliances, cookware, and tableware, plus gorgeous wood cabinetry and gleaming counters, the kitchen makes cooking a pleasure, not a chore.

All 4 bedrooms, like the rest of Cozy Knotty and Nice, are furnished in a rustic yet refined fashion, with log-style furniture and accents featuring elk, bear, and pine tree motifs. Two of the bedrooms include a king-size bed; each of the other 2 has a queen-size bed. All 4 feature a TV, a ceiling fan, and windows that look out onto the lush woods. The primary suite has a private bathroom as well as sliding glass doors that open onto the deck. Late at night, when the others are asleep, you can slip outside with your sweetheart for a spot of stargazing without waking the others.

Cozy Knotty and Nice has a bonus room with yet another flat-screen TV. Well-cushioned seating makes this an inviting space to sprawl out with a book (or for a nap!). If you have additional guests, this room can serve as a 5th bedroom, thanks to the futon that opens into a bed for 2.

You could easily while away your days reveling in Cozy Knotty and Nice’s privacy, serenity, and glorious views. But you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the cabin’s proximity to the area attractions. Alto Lake and Recreation Area, for instance, is less than 2 miles away. The lake is stocked with trout; when you’re not fishing you can explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. In 20 minutes or less, you can drive to the artisan boutiques and galleries of downtown Ruidoso, the Hubbard Museum of the American West, Bill the Kid casino, and Ruidoso Downs, and Ski Apache is little more than a half-hour from the cabin. (Note that the same conditions that make the area great for skiing can make driving difficult, so vehicles with 4-wheel drive and/or tire chains are strongly recommended in winter.)
